REPORT HIGHLIGHTS HIGH COST OF CHILD CARE IN NJ

11/13/2009

Open Announcement PDF file ( 6.99MB) . . .

According to a recent report released by the New Jersey Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NJACCRRA), child care is a major household expense for New Jersey parents, often causing a strain on household budgets and forcing parents to make many sacrifices, sometimes in the quality of the child care arrangement they select for their child. The current recession has made child care even less affordable.

The report, entitled The High Price of Child Care:  A Study Profiling the Cost of Care within Licensed Centers in New Jersey, examined the 2008-2009 average rates for full-time center-based care within municipalities throughout the state and revealed that in every county but one, monthly child care fees for two children at any age exceeded the median rent cost and were nearly as high, or even higher than, an average monthly mortgage payment.  To view the full report and see how your county ranks, click on the document link above.  To view the full report specific to Mercer County, visit our Downloadable Forms page and see the report under the Miscellaneous Forms section.
